Aalto University Studying and Improving Design Practice Symposium 2012

Paul Rodgers of the Design Disruption Group Join was invited to present the Design Disruption Group’s work at this symposium dealing with the future of product design at Aalto University, Finland on Thursday 6th September 2012. The event was aimed at both researchers and practitioners of design and it selected and presented both local and global leading research in the area. The symposium highlights included presentations from Stanford University (USA), the Design Disruption Group, and work from Aalto University. The highlights included Joachim Lyon of Stanford University presenting work on “Design practice and the distribution of labour”, Miko Laakso of the Aalto University Design Factory talking about “Designer reflections on practice”, and the Design Disruption Group’s very own Paul Rodgers of Northumbria University, School of Design talking about “Design activism as a driver of new practices”.

I am Professor of Design Issues at Northumbria University School of Design. I hold undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Design from Middlesex University,London, and a PhD in Product Design Assessment from the University of Westminster, London. My research explores the discipline of design and how disruptive design interventions can enact positive change in health and social care and elsewhere.
